First Nations societies pre-pontact were highly developed and sophisticated cultures with systems that nurtured their members, designed technologies suited to their needs and surroundings, and lived harmoniously with their natural environment.

Overview

The First Nations peoples are the original inhabitants of Canada. This Plain Talk provides a description of First Nations prior to colonization and occupation by Europeans, a time that is generally referred to as the time of contact.
